VMWare Trap Notify

1. a.      Configuring Disk Failure trap:

OID : 1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68.1.4.1

1. Go to Monitor Menu > Alarms > Policy > Mapping rules > Select SNMPv1 trap or SNMPv2 trap based on the SNMP version.

2. Create a mapping rule with Enterprise Id as 1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68.1.4.1 , Clear Id as 1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68 and save

3. Go to Alarms > Category to create disk failure related alarm.

4. Create an Alarm category with Alarm text .*Disk Failure.* and save. The alarm text must match with the Message given in the mapping rules.

5. Go to Notify > Rules to define a notification rule to receive disk related alarms

6. Create a rule and save.  Alarm category must be the same as that of created in earlier step. Mail subject , mail body and other fields can be altered by user.

7. After this step whenever this trap is received, user will receive Disk failure notification.

Note : If Login failure alert need to be received, please repeat the above steps but with Login OID.

1. a.      Configure all the traps except Login failure and Disk Failure

OID : 1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68.1.4.* except 1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68.1.4.2, 1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68.1.4.1

1. Go to Monitor Menu > Alarms > Policy > Mapping rules > Select SNMPv1 trap or SNMPv2 trap based on the SNMP version. Create a mapping rule with Enterprise Id as1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68.1.4(?!.2|.1).*, Clear Id as 1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68 and save.

    2.Go to Alarms > Category to create a new category of this Generic failure traps.

        Create with alarm text  .*Generic Failure.* and save. User can alter other fields.

3.Go to Notify> Rule to create Notification rule. Create and save. Select Alarm Category as Generic. Other fields can be altered according to user preference.

4. After these steps, if OID : 1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68.1.4.1 is received Disk failure alert is sent.

If OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.119.1.68.1.4.2 is received, no alert is sent

If OID other than above two is received, Generic alert is sent.
